What Are Integers?

--

  • Integers can be defined as the set of all Whole Numbers and the negatives of Natural Numbers.
  • In simple language, all the numbers from -∞ to +∞ (∞ means infinity) are Integers.
  • The numbers greater than 0 are called positive integers and the numbers less than 0 are called negative integers.
  • ‘0’ (Zero) is neither a positive integer nor a negative integer. It is a Neutral Integer.
  • Integers DO NOT include decimals and fractions.
  • On a number line, the positive integers are indicated on the right side of zero and negative integers are indicated on the left side of zero.
  • Integers are denoted by letter ‘Z’.

(Did you know: Why Are Integers Represented By The Letter ‘Z’?)

  • Z = {-∞, …, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, …, ∞}
